Buying local is one way to shop sustainably. But what if we told you the Potahto Made bag carrying Peak of the Market potatoes is partially made from potatoes? That's right! Up to 25% of Potahto Made bags are made from a 100% natural, renewably sourced, plant-based and totally eco-friendly material.
The potato based film used in Potahto Made bags is not only strong, but also thinner than traditional bags, leading to reduced use of fossil-fuel based plastics and generation of greenhouse gases. The potato starch used in Potahto Made bags, as well as the bag closure, is reclaimed from potato processing facilities which helps reduce food waste.
Potahto Made bags and bag closures are made from up to 25% plant based Eco Starch Resin (ESR) and polyethylene. ESR can be made from a combination of potato and other starches such as corn and tapioca. Potato and other raw starch materials are processed into a dry powder form and then processed into ESR pellets which are then blended with polyethylene resins.
You can recycle your Potahto Made bags at many of your favourite stores in their plastic shopping bag recycling bin usually located at the front of the store.
Potahto Made bags are also compostable with tests showing up to 48% degradation in 180 days.
